ABOUT THE GAME

FAQ

Follow the lights. Find the missing.

What kind of game is No Map Home?

No Map Home is an online fantasy RPG played in a web browser. Explore the wilderness, follow the Nine Watchlights story, and enter dungeons alone or with a cooperative party. Its tile-based exploration and generated dungeons draw on roguelikes, but the world runs continuously rather than waiting for turns, and defeat does not erase your hero.

Is it free? Are there purchases or subscriptions?

The current public preview is free to play. There are no real-money purchases or subscriptions.

Can I begin without an account? How is progress saved?

Choose a class and select Play as Guest. Guest progress stays in server memory and is not saved for a later visit. A lost connection has a 30-second reconnect window; leaving guest mode or a server restart ends the guest journey.

Create an account while playing to keep the same hero, position, inventory, abilities, and party. Registered progress is saved on the server, so you can sign in and return later.

How do multiplayer, parties, and joining friends work?

Towns and wilderness are shared with other players. Dungeons, ruins, and mines are private expeditions for a solo hero or a party of up to eight.

Open Party & Friends to invite an online hero or create and copy a join link. Open a friend’s link, play as a guest or sign in, and join when you enter the world. Links expire after 24 hours and can be disabled; a full party cannot accept another member. Guests can join parties, but saving friendships requires an account. The guide explains party travel and chat access.

Which devices and controls can I use?

Play in a browser with an internet connection and JavaScript enabled; no game installation is required. Keyboard and mouse controls include WASD or arrow keys to move and clicking to select. Touch controls let you drag to move, release to stop, tap to select, and pinch to zoom on a phone or tablet. See the illustrated controls guide.

How do combat timing and automatic attacks work?

Basic attacks resolve on a shared two-second heartbeat while an enemy is visible and within weapon range. A selected enemy takes priority; your hero can also retaliate against nearby enemies already attacking you. Releasing a target stops attacks against that enemy for the encounter.

You choose when to move, use abilities, and raise your class defense. Abilities have their own preparation times, energy costs, and cooldowns; preparing an ability interrupts basic attacks. Watch marked ground attacks and move clear. Opening a panel does not pause the world.

What happens after defeat?

Your hero returns to the checkpoint after five seconds with health and energy restored. You keep your levels, learned abilities, equipment, and inventory. Guest progress is still temporary until you register.
